Before we started our internship at the bakery, my group and I thought that the only component to it was baking. However, in just this past week, we have learned that it is so much more than just baking. There are a lot of small but important steps that are required to be successful in the bakery. For instance, creating the decorations and overall aesthetic for each baked good is just as important as baking. On top of working the cash register, this last week we have spent a lot of time making the crafts and cake toppers. We have learned how to make bows, and flags for different occasions, as well as graduation decor for the cakes.  On the first day at Nothing Bundt Cakes, my group and I did not know what to expect. We were nervous because we were unsure of how bakeries, especially a franchise worked. We quickly learned about the importance that corporate plays in each of the franchises. For example, they are in control of all of the flavors of the cake that are sold and have to maintain certain guidelines so that all of the bakeries in different locations remain unified and the same. We were issued a nothing bundt cakes shirt that we had to pair with black pants and black or white shoes. During the first week of senior projects, my group and I focused on the business-related aspect of the bakery. For most of the week, we learned how to work the cash register and about customer service. We followed bakery guidelines as to how to greet customers and take their orders.  Our mentor told us ab...

Whenever I became overwhelmed with schoolwork or other extracurricular activities, I could take a break and bake a sweet dessert. Especially d uring quarantine, baking has allowed me to share several new recipes with my family. Whether it’s baking a cheesecake for my parents' anniversary or a chocolate pavlova for my brother's birthday, baking has brought me closer together with my friends and family. As my love for baking and cooking continued to grow, I decided it was fitting to take a course that covered a similar area: Science in the Kitchen. Within that course, I was able to learn about several different recipes and the cultural backgrounds behind them. The course along with my hobby of baking have all played a role in my choice to complete my senior project at Nothing Bundt Cakes. Although I want...
