Blog #1 Pre-Project
Through the course of high school, I have acquired an interest in baking. Baking was a fun hobby where I could experiment with recipes but it became an outlet for stress relief. Whenever I became overwhelmed with schoolwork or other extracurricular activities, I could take a break and bake a sweet dessert. Especially during quarantine, baking has allowed me to share several new recipes with my family. Whether it’s baking a cheesecake for my parents' anniversary or a chocolate pavlova for my brother's birthday, baking has brought me closer together with my friends and family. As my love for baking and cooking continued to grow, I decided it was fitting to take a course that covered a similar area: Science in the Kitchen. Within that course, I was able to learn about several different recipes and the cultural backgrounds behind them. The course along with my hobby of baking have all played a role in my choice to complete my senior project at Nothing Bundt Cakes. Although I want to pursue a career in medicine in the future, I wanted to spend these 3 weeks trying something that I may not have the time to do when I am older. I wanted to have a first-hand experience of what it means to work in a bakery, both the baking aspect and the management side of it. I hope that my project gives me some insight into what it means to run a small business as well as a memorable and enjoyable experience.
